OWNERSHIP OF N.Z. TRUTH IS TO CHANGE SOON
WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA).— “It is true that the ownership of Truth (N.Z.) Ltd. is at present in the process of passing into the hands of a group of New Zealanders,’ said Mr J. H. Dunn, the company’s solicitor, today.
It was expected that the transfer of the company from the Norton family interests in Australia to the new owners would be completed within the new few weeks, he added. “Certain statements which have appeared in a Wellington newspaper should be regarded as being speculative and misleading,” continued Mr Dunn.
“Truth has always been an independent newspaper, neither bound to nor owing allegiance to any political party or financial, commercial or public organisation. This policy will be continued. I have been authorised to give people that positive assurance. “Furthermore, the editorial policy of Truth over the years, and as at present, will be continued.”
Mr Dunn said there would be no change in the management of the newspaper, which since 1936 has been under the direction of the managing editor, Mr B. R. Connolly, chief executive officer of the company in New Zealand.
