Impressive Gallops On Awapuni Tracks

PALMERSTON N., Last Night (Sp.) —Much interest was taken in this morning’s track work at Awapuni, when horses which will race on Saturday were given their final gallops. Among the outstanding trials were those of Silverdine, Ozami and Voltaic, Imperial and Mission, and Gay Gordon and Ngakoti over a mile, by Earldale and Knight Templar over a mile and a-quarter, and by Diana Reynard over five furlongs. Two-year-olds to go well were Indian Hagi, Persian Gulf and Dwight. The course proper with the trestles over 40ft out and the plough were both in use, and the going was fast. ON THE COURSE PROPER Silverdine (B. Wood), Ozami (A. Messervy) and Voltaic (G. R. Tattersail) worked on the course proper and the pace was on right from the start for the first three in 39 and the first five in 1.5 3-5. Wide out on the turn they ran the last three in 40 3-5. There was little between Silverdine and Ozami at the post and Voltaic was galloping smoothly under a length from the others. They ran the mile in 1.46 1-5. Another good gallop was that of Garno (Tattersall), Jubilation (Dulieu) and Lord Cranleigh (R. D. Samson). Garno and Jubilation set the pace to the three, reached in 1.7 3-5, and they were still a couple of lengths in front of Lord Cranleigh at the post, the mile having taken 1.48 3-5, the last three in 41. Hunting Fort (D. Harris) and Terrific (J. Gunn) ran their mile in 1.50 and were home really well in 40. Ngarobi (R. Melton) and Emerge (L. Hodren) worked well and they were together after running a mile in 1.49, the last three in 40 2-5. Wembley (R. L. Gibson) and Battle Strife (Wood) were not under pressure at any stage. They ran the mile in 1.52 3-5, the last three in 42 3-5. Britovite (J. Harris) and Gaystock (A. Midwood) took 1.50 3-5. Censor (Dulieu) ran a mile in 1.47 2-5, the last three in 40 4-5. Censor has improved a lot during the last fortnight. Despot and Billie Girl ran a mile in 1.53 and were home fast in 40 2-5. Pan Walla (S. A. Waddell) and Precedency (M. Pyne) took 1.51 4-5, the last three strongly in 41. Revel Lad (J. Harris) and Beauform (J. Carter) sprinted seven in 1.36, the last three in 41 3-5, both working well. One of the best efforts over five on the grass was that, of Nakura (V. J. Sellars) and Red Hero (Messervy). They cut the distance out in 1.5 and wore home fast in 38 3-5. Miss Pollyanna (L. J. Clutterbuck) was about half a length in front of Chip (J. Shaw) at the end of live in 1.6, the last three in 40. Angell (.Clutterbuck) and Sayani (Shaw) were home in 41 for five in 1.7. Red Beau (Harris) beat Carma (Clutterb M uck) over live in 1.7 1-5, the last three in 40 3-5 Beaute (Messervy) and Gay Coronach (Aitken) were together and going I well at the end of live In 1.7 2-5. Indian Ragi (Tattersall), Dwight i(Dulieu) and Persian Gulf (Sellars) I were not. hurried early, but. with Dwight, and Indian Ragi setting the I pace they were travelling fast when they made the home stretch. They ran half a mile in 55, the last three in 39. ON THE PLOUGH Imperial (Tattersall) and Mission (Aitken) went, away smartly to run their first five in 1.5 and they wore home over the slower portion of the plough in 42 2-5 to complete their mile in 1.47 2-5. It was a really good gallop. Earldale (Dulipu) and Knight Templar (Messervy) hopped away from near the three and the pace was sound all through. They ran the last mile in 1.50 3-5 and could have im>

proved on 44 for the last three. Gay Gordon (Aitken) and Ngakoti (Tattersail) worked splendidly over a mile in 1.48, the last three in 41 4-b. and Gay Gordon was in front at the finish. Jangada (Wood) ran a mile in 1.48 1-5 and was not under pressure tc 1 cover the last five in 1.8 1-5. Bright side (Spriggs) and Goldcille (Aitken) were timed over seven in 1.34 3-5 and the pace was sound all through. Master Scholar and Chic ran six in 1.21 3-5. Diana Reynard (Aitken) was taken ! round to the five, from which peg she was away brilliantly to run the first three in 36 2-5. She was not under pressure at the finish, but she ran the five in 1.3 3-5, the last three in 39 3-5. Another good gallop on the plough was that of Meriden and Spoil Sport ever four furlongs in 52 1-5. They were home exceptionally well in 38. 3-5. J ♦
