NAVAL PRIZE-MONEY WILL BE £5 10s FOR ALL RANKS

WELLINGTON, Last Night (PAL— The prize money payable to those who served in the Royal New Zealand Navy during World War II will amount to £5 10s for each person, the Minister of Defence (Mr MacDonald) announced today. The conditions are—prize money is payable only to members of the Royal New Zealand Navy, including certain civilians employed in H.M.N.Z. ships who served 18CTdays between September 3, 1939, and September 2, 1945, either on the books of a sea-going ship of war, or on the books of a nonseagoing ship or establishment for service in sea-going ships of war, operational coastal force craft, D-E.M.S. convoy staffs, or as members of regular crews of combined operational craft.

Owing to the late receipt of information as to the total amount of New Zealand’s share, it was impossible to have the payments warrants printed in time to make payment before Chris mas, but this would commence early in the New Year. Payment, which will be made by a warrant redeemable at any Money Order Office, is expected to take several weeks. Those who have already made application on the form of application for campaign stars ■ and medals will receive payment without further application. Those who have not made application are advised to do so. The form is obtainable from any Post Office or the Navy Office.
