ALTERATION IN WEIGHT RANGE OF WETHERS AND EWES
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA)— In aj statement issued today the Minister of Marketing (Mr Holyoake) announced that arrangements had nowbeen made for the extension of the weight ranges for heavy wethers and ewes acceptable for export to the United Kingdom.
The classification in the case of wether mutton is to be extended from 73/801bs to 73/901bs, the price being the same as that already issued for the 73/801b classification. In the case of ewe mutton the maximum weight has been extended from 801 b to 851 b with no variation in price. The Minister also stated that all wethers from 81 to 901 b and ewes from 73 to 851 b are to be boned out as manufacturing meat, and there will also be included in the meat to be exported as manufacturing meat any over-fat carcases of wethers 801 b and under, and ewes 721 b and under. This will mean that in future no over-fat carcases will go forward for issue on the ration in the United Kingdom, but will be accepted instead as manufacturing meat for export.
