HUNTERVILLE, Last Night (OC). —“The reports that thousands of rabbits are getting around without tails are quite contrary to fact,” said the rabbit inspector, Mr. E. Griffin, when , asked by Mr. W. August to comment on the current reports at yesterday’s ■ meeting of the Hunterville Rabbit Board. “Rabbits have boc'n found without tails but in nothing like the numbers some people think," Mr. Griffin said. Other members were able to substantiate what, Mr. Grillin said, but J steps will be taken to ensure that the • practice is not allowed to continue or to spread if the bounty system is introduced again. Another practice lhe board moved against, was the mutilation of rabbit ■ tails in an endeavour to draw a double bounty. At one stage of the : meeting a number of tails were scattered over lhe table being carefully 1 examined by members. Each of the tails had been cut in half. After some discussion it was de- . cided that payment be refused because the tails had been mutilated to obtain a double count. Payment was also refused o'n a quantify of tails whi.h had been allowed to dete'rior- ■ ate so that it was impossible to count | them accurately
