Store Lambs Reach New Peak Prices At Stortford Lodge

HASTINGS, Last Night (PA).— Store lambs reached new peak prices for the season at Stortford Lodge today, Down-cross lambs touching 54s and white-face shorn wether lambs 41s. The market was well supplied with lambs off their mothers for the first time this season, and the interest in them was keen. There were some good sheep available in an offering of 5750 head. The record price was 54s for meaty Downcross lambs. It was a top quality line of shorn white-face wether lambs which topped the market for this class of sheep at 41s. Good Down-cross lambs realised from 50s 8d to 545, lighter from 42s 7d to 43s 6d, good shorn white-face lambs from 37s 8d to 41s, medium from 33s 4d to 36s 6d, and light 29s 3d. Forward early shorn two-tooth wethers sold at 62s 6d, average sorts at 57s 3d and 58s, light at 53s 7d, and older wethers at 56s 6d. Five-year ewes made 46s 3d, and small two-tooth ewes £3 14s. Where quality was offering In a short yarding of 170 head of store cattle, values were at satisfactory levels in line with ruling rates. The quality, however, was mixed. Extra prime young ewes were traded at from 55s Id to 57s lOd, lighter from 43s lOd to 44s lOd, prime older ewes bringing from 38s lOd to 42s lOd, medium 34s 4d, and unfinished 25s to 32s lOd. Prime wethers made from 59s lOd to 60s 7d, and others from 54s 7d to 58s lOd. A small number of spring lambs realised from 46s lOd to 49s lOd, with shorn sorts at from 30s to 39s Id. Down two-tooths ranged from 46s 4d to 61s 4d.
