HURN CUP COMES BACK TO THE CITY
Wanga’nui Bowling Club has lifted the Jlurn Cup from Ohakune and, in lifting it, has taken over two challenges already in for the trophy— Raetihi and Victoria. Ohakune lifted the trophy from Gonville on December 3 and since then played Ruapehu, resisting that challenge by 23 to 16. The defending team was A. Taylor, R. Huddleston. J. Kerr and S. Thomas. Ruapehu was represented by W. Mott (lead), H. Pethrick (2), L. Braddock (3) and B. K. Rush (skip). Last Sunday a four from Wanganui went to Ohakune and in a close, even game, won the trophy on the last end by 23 to 21. On the 20th. end Wanganui got four and led 21 to 20. Ohakune wanted a mere one to draw, and that would have permitted the cup to stay in the town of the mountain until at least another challenge, but Wanganui secured two on the end and clinched the game, 23 to 21. The fours were: Wanga’nui: A. Glengarry, A. D. Tilley, J. Lee and A. Dick. Ohakune: A. Taylor, R. Huddleston, J. Kerr and S. Thomas.
