Separate Europe Cominform Bureau Set Up In Berlin
LONDON, Dec. 18.—Correspondents report from Vienna that a separate Cominform bureau for Western Europe has been established on Soviet instructions with headquarters in Berlin. It will be independent of the main Cominform headquarters in Bucharest and will co-ordinate Communist activity in Europe’s “capitalist and socialist States.” It is understood the new headquarters have been instructed to carry out only “preliminary activity" in Europe until the present Far East crisis has been resolved,.
The “Daily Telegraph’s” Vienna correspondent says: “There are three Tiain features of the Cominform programme, firstly ,an all-out fight in foreign affairs against pan-European movements —there is evidence of Russian concern about the growing threa these represent to Communist aims; secondly, intensified preparation of European socialist parties and trade unions through their Left Wing elements; and thirdly, increased participation in nationalist movements to achieve this penetration. This involves a temporary loosening of formal ties with Moscow. This new framework is being built up in view of the failure of Communist parties to gain influence in Eastern Europe by open methods.”
