DR. FISHER SORRY HIS VISIT TO WANGANUI SO BRIEF

Mail From Britain.

As a souvenir for his brief visit to Wanganui the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. G. F. Fisher, was handed a pictorial brochure of the city by Mrs C. R. White in Welling\>n last week. The brochure contained the signatures of the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers M.L.C., and the town clerk, Mr C. R. White. On Monday a hand-written note expressing thanks for the gift was received by Mr Rogers. Tue note was signed "Geoffrey Cantaur.” His Grace wrote: "If I came to Wanganui at all, it could only be privately and informally, as I could not be there for more than a brief time. I am very glad that I had a brief glimpse of Wangaml and my old friend, Mr F. W. Gilligan. But it was a grief to me that I coiJld see nothing of the city and its people.”

Delivery of parcel mail brought from Britain by the freighter Dorset, lying in the stream snee she arrived on December 8 was speeded up yesterday. The vehicular ferry-boat Sparrowhawk was towed to the freighter and the mail from Britain was lowered by watersiders. It was hoped by nine o’clock last night to have most of the 2100 odd bags stacked on the Sparowhawk, which will be offloaded this morning. All bags consigned to destinations in the south will be sent away in the first available trains.
