No Settlement Yet In Railway Wages Dispute
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA) Negotiations which took plane today between representatives of the Government and of the gen- • era! division railway organisations failed to reach a settlement of the railway wages dispute. The discussions will be continued tomorrow morning in a further attempt to avert the threatened railway strike in the Auckland district. Late this afternoon, following the usual Tuesday Cabinet meeting, the I railwaymen s representatives met tha | Deputy-Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake), the Minister of Railways (MJ Goosman) and the Minister of Labour (Mr Sullivan). This discussion, which was interrupted by the tea adjournment, was continued tonight and extended over three hours. The General Manager of Railways (Mr F. W. Aickin), with whom the representatives of the railway organisations had protracted negotiations earlier in the day, was also present. Beyond saying that the discussions would be continued tomorrow, the parties to the negotiations had no comment to make at the conclusion of tonight’s discussions.
