Girl Guide Local Association’s Conference
More than 100 delegates and visitors from Girl Guides’ local associations in the North Island held a conference in Napier recently. Two years ago Dominion Girl Guide headquarters decided to hold two conferences, one in the North Island and ! one in the South Island, of delegates from the local associations. The first conference was held in Palmerston North. Mr Cooksey, Dominion Commissioner for Training of the Boy Scouts’ Association, spoke on the place of the lay-member in guiding. He encouraged those present to continue with their help, even though they wore no uniform, and gave their help unobtrusively, Mrs R. S. Mclnnes, Dominion Commissioner for Publicity, referred to how the lay members could help to bring guiding before the uninitiated. Napier and Hastings guides gave a practical display of out-of-door ac tivities. Three English films, which Miss M. Iles, general secretary, had brought back with her from England, were shown. Miss Iles was a recent delegate io ihe 13th world conference of guiding in Oxford. Miss R. Herrick, Chief Commissioner, presided over the conference. The Napier Association was thanked for their hospitality. Delegates would like to hold the next conference at “Arahina,” the guides’ training centre at Marton
