“DANCING DAYS” PRESENTED TO CAPACITY HOUSE
Held in the presence of an enthusiastic capacity audience, “Dancing Days 1950” was successfully and artistically presented in the Wanganui Opera House on Monday night by the Trevor Hunter School of Dancing. The recital was in aid of funds for the British Commonwealth and Empire Nurses’ Memorial Fund. The young performers acquitted themselves with marked ability, while the solo numbers revealed talent of a high standard of achievement. Attractive frocking and scenery were featured. The staging of the item "The Old Woman who Lived in A Shoe” was very effective and won high acclaim from the audience . In this number, a fox terrier, Mother Hubbard's dog, stole the spotlight and he came in for a generous round of applause. The numbers “In Contraband,” “The Hop Scotch Polka,” and other items followed in quick succession and the fast-moving presentation of the varied programme held the close attention of the audience from first to last. The R.S.A. Little Theatre chorus and pianists. M. Tizard, M. Humphries, E. Howes, J. Dudley, and E. Holdaway, assisted in the evening’s entertainment. During an interval Mrs Trevor Colway, formerly Miss Trevor Hunter, acknowledged the support given the performance and thanked all who had assisted in the successful production. Mrs Colway was presented with a boquet from Sister Williams. At the conclusion of the entertainment performers were recipients of flowers and sweets.
