COURT DEALS LENIENTLY WITH YOUNG WOMAN

Pleading guilty to a charge of the theft of a suitcase and other items, having a total value of £7 13s 6d, from a private house at Nae Nae. a young woman was sentenced to one year’s probation when she appeared in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday. For the prosecution it Was stated that the accused had been employed in '.he owner's home. When he discovered his loss he notified the police, who recovered the suitcase. Accused then posted back the other items. Accused had had previous convictions, but not since 1947. She now had a good position, most suitable to her, and her employer spoke very highly of her capabilities. The prosecutor was thanked for his very fair presentation of the facts by Mr J. D. Tizard, who appeared for accused. Asking for leniency for accused Mr. Tizard said she had had a most unhappy life and it was most desirable that her present position not be disturbed.
