WAVERLEY NOTES

Gladioli Society Meeting WAVERLEY, Last Night (OC).— There was a good attendance at the recent monthly meeting of the Gladioli Society, presided over by Mr. E. Lane. It was decided that no meeting be held in December, but the next meeting would be on January 15, prior to the society’s show on January 19. Members would have a display of blooms at this meeting. From these blooms the best would be chosen to compete in the Wanganui Members’ Show, to be held the following day. Each member would be restricted to six blooms. Mr. A. W. Larsen, of Wanganui, gave a detailed account of the conference he had attended recently, which dealt with the importation of bulbs and plants. The restrictions on these items are to be lifted in December. Restrictions had been implied to prevent disease coming into the country. Pot plants were without soil, but packed with moss. Mr. Larsen also spoke on the deformities and disease in gladioli, the knowledge of which will prove a great help to growers. He also gave an instructive demonstration on the staging of blooms. The evening concluded with supper served by the ladies.
