CHIEF ACCOUNTANT OF N.Z. TOTALISATOR BOARD APPOINTED
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— Mr. E. Groom, Wellington, has been appointed chief accountant for the Totalisator Agency Board, which is organising off course betting. He will take up his duties early in December. Mr. Groom, who is a qualified accountant, was born in New Plymouth in 1909, and was educated at Wellington College. He served overseas in the war with the New Zealand Artillery. He joined the Department of Industries, Commerce, Tourist and Publicity in 1926 in 1938. He was appointed assistant accountant and six years' later head accountant. When Industries and Commerce were separated from Tourist and Publicity, Mr. Groom was appointed chief accountant to the new Department of Tourist and Health Resorts.
In April of this year Mr. Groom was loaned to the Economic Commission for Far Eastern Asia in Siam, and in the course of his duties with this organisation he visited India, Pakistan, Ceylon, Burma, Indonesia, the Phiilipines and Japan. He returned to New Zealand in October.
