Cr. N. Ashenden was re-elected deputy Mayor of Taihape last night, when the new Borough Council met for the first time.

Bergerson will represent the Wanganui Cricket Association at a meeting of the Central Districts Cricket Association to be held in Wellington or. December 1.

Mr. E. C. Penfold, of Christchurch, was elected president .of the New Zealand Manufacturing Engineers and Trades Federation, and Mr. S. O. Niven, of Auckland, was elected vicepresident. Dr. J. P. G- Schmitz, of the K.L.M. shipping line, who is in Wellington to confer regarding the transport of Dutch settlers to New Zealand, will leave on his return to Holland at the end of the week.

Dr. W. A. Priest, who will leave for overseas early next year on a visit abroad under a travelling medical scholarship, ha- resigned from the Wanganui Cricket Association. His resignation was received with regret and a tribute to his services was paid by the president of the association, Mr L W. Condliffe. Mr S. E. Langstone, manager ot trieAuckland Centre o£ the St. John Amoulance Association, lias been appointed Dominion ambulance transport officer ot the association. At a future dale he will visit Australia to stuay the latest developments in ambulance transport and the blood transfusion service. Mr Langstons has served with the Auckland Centre for 28 years.

Mr. T. T. Murray (New Plymouth), newly-appointed No. 6 Transport Licensing Authority sat. in Wanganui for the first time yesterday. He was welcomed by Mr. E. M. Arnold (Wellington, representing the Transport Departmen;, Mr. R. S. Withers, on behalf of Wanganui solicitors, Mr. K. J. Thomas, for the Railways Department and Mr. E. W. F. Gohns, Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Trm. [ ort Alliance. Mr James Legat, M A., aged 49, principal of the Gisborne High Schoo) for the last seven years, has been appointed headmaster of the Christchurch Loys’ High School in succescession to Mr A. E. Caddick, who will retire at the end of the year. Mr Leggat taught at the Auckland Grammar School, the New Plymouth Boys' High School : nd the Hastings High School before the second World War. During tiie war he served with the 22nd N.Z. Battalion in Greece, Crete and North Africa, retiring with the rank of lieutenant-colonel.
