MOST SHIPS OF N.Z. SQUADRON HOMEWARD BOUND FOR AUCKLAND
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— With one exception all the ships of the New Zealand Squadron are returning home to Auckland, from missions ranging further afield than any in its peacetime history. Two frigates are. on the last stage of a voyage from Malta, another two frigates are homeward bound from Korea, and the cruiser Bellona is ending a New Zealand cruise. The Royal New Zealand Navy’s sole representative overseas by the end of next month will be the frigate Rotoiti, which has just joined the United Nations escort group in Korean waters. Three or four ships of the squadron will leave in January for exercises with the Royal Australian Fleet. The Bellona will sail on January 21 and the Taupo, Hawea, and possibly one other frigate will follow her about January 30. The ships will return to Auckland in the middle of April.
