FIJIAN POLICEMAN IN TAIHAPE
A member of the Fijian Police Force is visiting Taihape and expects to be here for a week. He is Sergeant Guru Swamy, known as “George” to his friends. He has been a member of the Police Force in Fiji for 12 years. For five years he was stationed at Police Headquarters at Suva, and was then transferred to Lautoka, n short distance from Nandi, on the western side of the island. Sergeant Swamy is a married man with three children, and is on a six months* holiday visit to New Zealand. His wife and family are at present living in Suva. While in the Dominion, he hopes to have the opportunity of studying the latest methods in fingerprint evidence, and may attend a course of instruction In Wellington in January. He has visited Waiouru, but finds the climate there rather cold. He attended a sitting of the Court at Taihape on Thursday morning. PERSONAL. Since the celebration of their golden wedding on Tuesday, Mr and Mrs W. Frew. Taihape, have received by overseas mail a gift from relations of Mr Frew in Scotland. The gift is a tablecloth containing a pattern of the Forth Bridge with a border of Scotch thistles. The present was sent by Mr and Mrs James Berry, of Scotland. Amongst the guests at the golden wedding celebrations was Mrs M. Ogilvie senior, of Auckland, aged 88 years, mother of Mr A. Ogilvie, a son-in-law of Mr and Mrs Frew. She motored all the way from Auckland to attend the celebrations and returned hpme by car the following day.
