Gonville Retains The Hurn Cup Wanganui bowlers enjoyed the sunny afternoon on Saturday. The second round of the Centre pennant fours, senior and junior were played. The Victoria and Cosmopolitan Clubs played the first round in their Shield fours and Banner fours. Yesterday, on the Gonville green, Gonville (holders) retained the Hurn Cup against a challenge from Waverley. Mid-week fours will be continued next Wednesday. On Saturday next the first round of the Nixon Cup fours will be played. Following are the results of play at the week-end:— Gonville Still Has The Hurn Cup Gonville retained the Hurn Cup in a match played yesterday against a challenging lour from Waverley. The match ended on the 20th end, with the score reading 24 to six in Gonville s favour. Gonville got away to a good start and on the seventh end led by 10 to one. On the 12th end the score was 14 to three in Gonville’s favour, and then Waverley scored three, making the board read 14 to six. It looked then as though Waverley would make a good tight of it, but they faded out and did not score again. There we,, some quite good heads dt/ing the game, but Gonville had tne cup in hand most of the time. Gonville: C. Stewart, J. Healey, P. Mailman and D. Armstrong 24. Waverley: W. Simson, G. Milne, W. Rosewarne and W. Heginbotham. Quite a lot of interest is being taken in the Hurn Cup, and there are live challenges in. They have been placed in the following order: Feilding, Waitotara, Ohakune, Ruapehu and Wanganui.
