WORLD PEACE CONGRESS TRANSFERS TO WARSAW FROM SHEFFIELD

LONDON, Nov. 11 (Recd. 6pm).— The organisers of the World Peace Congress to have been held at Sheffield from Monday till next Sunday, decided to shift the main congress to Warsaw. The congress will sit only on Monday at Sheffield. The delegates will then reassemble at Warsaw on Thursday. British security obstacles prevented so many foreign delegates entering the country that th e organisers decided to transfer the venue. The one-day session at Sheffield will be attended by about 250 British delegates, 80 to 90 foreign delegates who, up to tonight, passed the British security checks, plus any others who survive the screening during the week-end. The organisers, who had hoped for 1900 delegates from 70 countries, estimated that the cancelling of the Sheffield arrangements cost about £25,000 in lost hall and hotel bookings and of officials’ European travel expenses. ■ A few overseas delegates got ■ through the stiff security examinations yesterday and today. Only live i of 60 French delegates who arrived; today were admitted.

Some protest movements against the British Government’s attitude are developing in England. Many Conservative and Liberal newspapers said that it would have done less harm to Britain if the delegates had been allowed to come in and talk as they pleased.—Reuter.
