New Senior B Cricket Record of 219 Runs For Opening Partnership

An opening partnership of 219 runs, a record for senior B cricket and the biggest opening score in Wanganui for several years, was made by R. Kendall and N. Wallace in Saturday’s senior B series. They were batting for P. and T. against Marist. In the memory of Mr. L. A. Wood, veteran Wanganui cricket player and executive officer, the largest opining partnership scored in recent years was 240-odd runs compiled by T. O. Cave and E. K. Hunt, batting for Wanganui against United in the 19'15-46 season. Mr. Wood can remember more prolific partnerships about 88 years ago, however. Kendall’s score on Saturday was 102 not out. Wallace contributed 127 runs, then further helped his team by tailing six Marist wickets for 42 runs.

Against the powerful batting of Kendall and Wallace, veteran Marist howler J. Timbs gave a creditable performance. While he did not capture a wicket, he had only 56 runs scored off his 16 overs.
