Council Protests At Valuation Objections Being Held In Feilding

The Marton Borough Council has objected to Feildin.g being chosen as the centre to hold a sitting of the Palmerston North Land Valuation Committee to hear objections longed by Marton ratepayers on the valuations placed on their properties. A telegram of protest has been forwarded to the deputy-registrar, Land Valuation Court, Wellington, asking that the venue be altered. The deputy registrar advised the council at its meeting on Wednesday night, that 14 objections by nine ratepayers to their valuations had been received and these would be heard at Feilding on Monday, November 20 The finance committee had considered their recommendation and it was of the opinion that it was an injustice to ratepayers to have to go to Folding, said the Mayor, Mr T. E. Barton. Marton had a Magistrate’s and the committee considered it was competent that the sitting should be held in Marton. Ratepayers should not have the added expense of going to Feilding. he said. Mr Barton added that a strong protest had been lodged and application had been made to have the venue shifted to Marton. The Mayor was supported by Cr. W. meads in his remarks.
