WILL NOT BE BROUGHT TO HEEL BY POLITICAL PARTY OR PRESSURE
Speaking to electors al Wanganui East, Cr. T. N. Dickson, chairman of the Wanganui City Council's Works Committee, said that he was surprised to note, in a reported statement ot the Mayor (Mr. Rogers) that he (Mr. Rogers) charged the Citizens' Association with having an affiliation with the National Party. “This statement is entirely incorrect and bears no relation to fact,” said Mr. Dickson. “Mr. Rogers knows from past experiences that I have never allowed anything but my own judgment to influence any decisions I have made at the council table, and I reiterate that no political party or any other pressure group has a chance of getting me to come to heel. “May I presume to advise you. Elect those men who can satisfy you that they will handle council business as though it were their own, and avoid any whose actions can be influenced by pressure from any source. Sound, clear judgment can only be had from a man when he is not afraid even to hurt the feelings of his friends if the city's interests are to come first."
