Mr J. Hodgson has been appointed secretary of the New Plymouth Aero Club in succession to Mr. M. J. Lobb.

Mr. R. D. Mclntyre, staff clerk to the Palmerston North Hospital Board, has been appointed chief clerk to t’-ie Northland Hospital Board. Mr N. C. Kwint, of the Social Affairs Department, The Hague, is visiting Wellington to discuss migration affairs with Government officials. Mr E. J. Smith, of the Otago An Society, was yesterday elected president at the annual meeting of the Association of New Zealand Art Societies.

Mr J. B. Pennink, Netherlands Minister, who has been visiting New Caledonia, is a visitor to Sydney. He is due back in Wellington with Mrs Pennink on November 14. Sir Leonard Isitt, chairman of directors ot the National Airways Corporation. returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to the United States, Canada, Fiji and Australia. Mr. J. Morling, a stipendiary magistrate at Auckland since 1938, will re' tire at the end of the month. In 1936, he was appointed Chief Judge in Samoa, where he spent two years.

Dr. C. W. S. Jerram, of Dunedin, arrived at Wellington by air yesterday after attending the first annual meeting of the College of Radiologists ot Australia and New Zealand held last month in Adelaide.

Mr. G. A. Coombe, chief surveyor of the Prudential Assurance Co. x Ltd., is a visitor to Wellington for the Commonwealth surveyors' conference. He is a vice-president of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Dr. J. L. Savage, of Denver, Color ado, who visited New Zealand last year at the invitation of the Government to advise on hydro-electric developments, is visiting the Dominion on a brief holiday. Mr J. C. Schneider has resigned the position of secretary of New Zealand Art Societies after 13 years’ service. At the annual meeting in Wellington yesterday, Mr R. H. Fraser was appointed to the position. Mr J. K. Hunn has been appointed acting-Secretary for Justice and act-ing-Controller General of Prisons. The positions were held by Mr E. J. Gifford, who died recently. The Secretary for Justice is Mr S. T. Barnett, who is at present in America. The Rev. W. Gardiner Scott, chaplain to the Christian Student Movement, and the Rev. Norman Gilkinson, secretary of the movement, have been granted seats on the Wellington Presbytery by the Presbyterian General Assembly. The United States Embassy in Wellington has been advised that Mr. Sidney H. Browne has been advanced by President Truman to the rank of Consul-General. Mr. Browne, who arrived in August last to take the place of Mr. Howard Elting as first secretary, already has the rank or Counsellor. Mr. Elting is taking a course at the Naval War College in the United States.
