DELAY IN SEEKING POSTPONEMENT OF MILITARY SERVICE
Unless applications for postponement of military service are made within a fortnight, of the enlistment notice being served, provision is made for applications to be dismissed without a hearing, the No. 10 Military Postponement Committee says in a statement issued yesterday. The committee comprises Messrs N. M. Izard (chairman), A. R. Donaldson, S. R. Col? and D. W. Hodge (secretary). Their statement reads:“This committee has been required to consider several late applicationfor postponement of military training, ’both from persons enlisted and from employers. "Tim Act. requires that applications for postponement must be made within 14 days from the date of service of the enlistment notice. The enlistment notice itself is served by registered post on the person liable for srrv’r?. 'aces unon him the responsibility of informing his employer, and clearly states that applicaation for postponement must made within 14 days. If the enlistment notice is read by persons concerned, they will be fully iiVormed of their rights. Tn a n y case of doubt they mav refer tn th? district office’’ of the Department of Labour and Employment, for further information, which will be given willin civ. “The Act provides that if the anplicat’on for postponement is not mad n in time the committee shall dismiss the appfleation without a hearing, unless it is satisfied that th? delay was occasioned by mistake or by any other reasonable cause.
