DESIRE TO ASSIST IN THE BETTERMENT OF CITY OF WANGANUI

His sole purpose in accepting nomination for a seat on the City Council at the forthcoming municipal elections was to assist in the betterment of the city and community as a whole» said Mr E. J. Crotty, Citizens candidate, addressing the electors at the Castlecliff Town Hall. He considered the present council had done an excellent job under difficult circumstances, but felt that an even better one could be accomplished, and, if elected, he would strive to give effect to any recommendations or projects intended to improve or add to the many amenities that the city possessed. During the present council’s term of office he was pleased to see that the introduction of party politics hac been reduced to a minimum, but. he was a firm believer in having them eliminated altogether from civic administration, and would work unceasingly for such an objective. "Because I am immensely interested in the progress of the city, and feel that a good harbour is essential to that progress, I have offered myself as a candidate for the Harbour Board,” said Mr W. G. Seabrook (Citizens’ Association) candidate, speaking to the electors at Castlecliff. "I have lived in this city for more than 30 years, and, with my business experience and my experience in the Mercantile Marine, I feel that I owe it to the city to offer my services. I feel that party politics should have no bearing on the civic or Harbour Board administration, and offer myself unfettered to give my services to the best of my ability.”
