Tennis And Croquet Club WAVERLEY, Last Night (OC).—There was an attendance of more than 50 players at the official opening of the Waverley Lown Tennis and Croquet Club’s season on Saturday, under ideal conditions. The compete tion for the afternoon was a Yankee tournament for the tennis players, for which Mr C. Dallison had donated a trophy. The winners were Mrs J. B. Walkinton and C. Dallison. During the afternoon tea interval, Mr J. B. Walkinton, president of the club, declared the 1950-51 season open. The crowd present, he hoped, indicated a good season for the club. He stated that some of the club members had worked hard to get the grounds into order again. The grounds had been let go in the winter months and several working bees had been necessary to clear the rubbish. These had been very well attended. He also thanked the women for the part they had played in working bees. Mr Walkinton stated that he had a most pleasant duty to perform, that of making Mrs H. P. Mitcall’e a life member of the club. Mrs Mitcalfe had been associated with both tennis and croquet for the last 52 years and she had always been a most prominent and wholehearted supporter of the club. Defence Rifle Club.
