BODY OF NOTORIOUS CRIMINAL FOUND TRUSSED IN A CREEK

ADELAIDE, Nov. 5 (Rec. 7 pm).— The discovery of the trussed body of an inter-State criminal, Charles Bray, aged 53, in a shallow creek near MorPhettville Racecourse, has opened Adelaide’s most sensational underworld mystery in years. Bray was a confederate of the notorious gambler, Louis Zammitt, who was found shot dead in his bed on Friday. Police believe Bray’s murderers hurled his body from a car crossing the bridge over the creek early on Saturday morning. I’jhe body, which was wrapped In hessian, had bullet-holes in the right temple and left cheek. It was clad in pyjamas, shoes and socks. The police, who a/e conducting wide investigations in the underworld, believe Bray and Zammitt recenttly fell out, and threatened each other with violence. They at first thought Zammitt may have committed suicide, but are not inclined to the belief that Bray may have murdered Zammitt and that Zammitt's friends may have killed Bray in revenge. Bray was suspected of being Involved in the 1942 massacre of three men whose bodies were found in a disused city betting shop, which had been set alight. He was known as a notorious inter-State car thief, and was arrested in Sydney earlier this year, but failed to appear on a charge of being a suspected person.
