MANPOWER SHORTAGE IS MAIN PROBLEM OF THE CHURCH TODAY

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).—l: was clear that the shortage of manpower was the main problem of the Church today, said the acting convener of the Teological Hall Committee, the Rev. J. M. McKenzie, presenting the committee’s report to the Presbyterian General Assembly on Saturday. “It is evident that we are lacing something of a crisis,” he said.

The matter concerned every congregation in the Church and he hoped that the members of the Assembly would go back to the parishes and emphasise the shortage. The Hall was having a record year with 52 students training for the Ministry, but it was nothing to be complacent about, said Mr. McKenzie. The Church had the facilities to give the best training for far more students than the number under training. It was quite evident that something more was needed to encourage young men to join the ministry.

The assembly approved the regulation granting financial• assistance to students who marry after aceptance for training.
