AUSTER AIRCRAFT MISSING ON FLIGHT FROM HASTINGS TO HOREKE

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).—An Auster aircraft, ZK-AOB, is missing on a flight from Hastings to Horeke, Hokianga Harbour. The aircraft is owned and piloted by Mr. E. A. G. Gray, of Horeke. There is one passenger.

The plane left Hastings at 3.15 p.m. and is thought to have passed over Mangere. Flying conditions have been poor for most of the day. Several people have reported seeing and hearing a plane pass over Auckland about 6.20 this evening and there is an unconfirmed report that it was seen over Ruawai about 7 p.m. Reports from many northern centres stated that the weather was overcast and that it was raining. There were strong northerly winds. Communication with Horeke was difficult tonight as the Post Office closes early. Many reports have been coming into police stations.

Mr. Gray is said to make the trip to Hastings frequently. He is a garage proprietor at Horeke.
