Wanganui County Council In Favour Of Counties Maintaining State Roads
When the Ward 4 conference of the New Zealand Counties’ Association is held in Palmerston North on Monday delegates from the Wanganui County Council will support a recommenda-1 tion that the maintenance of State highways be placed in the hands ot county councils instead of the Ministry of Works. Discussing the recommendation at its monthly meeting yesterday, the council expressed the view that county councils, with the help of a Government subsidy, could do a far more economical job of the maintenance. Thus, more money would be available for the extension of the country's State highways.
