RENTAL CARS FOR RAETIHI

RAETIHI, Last Night (OC). —Raetihi is soon to have two rental cars available to the community, a licence for thse being rcently granted by the Transport Licensing Authority. In the original application, A. E. Willoughby and Co. sought a licence for three cars of different capacity but when the case came up for hearing the applicants stated that they would be content with permission to operate two vehicles. The ordinary bus services and the two taxis were insufficient to meet the requirements of the community and there was a constant demand for rental cars. These were obtainable from Taumarunui, Taihape and Wanganui but they were too rar away and toe costly to be considered. The idea was something of an experiment, said Mr A. Willoughby, but he had taith In it proving a success both from his own and the public angle. Although there was no opposition to the application, the chairman of tlie sitting, Mr Murray, evinced surprise that there was no indication from the public that the licence was warranted, this was almost a necessity, he said. At this juncture several present at the sitting voluntarily substantiated the claims submitted by Mr. Willoughby and this resulted in the licence being granted.
