THOSE RESPONSIBLE FORGIVING WANGANUI DEBT-FREE TRANSPORT
In an address to electors at the Wanganui Opera House, the Deputy Mayor of Wanganui (Cr. R. E. Jack) said that the “policy” of obtaining a new transport service for Wanganui, the buses, without the addition of a penny to the city debt, Wanganui has to thank the Citizens* Association councillors and those councillors alone. “Let there no mistake about that,” said Mr Jack. “For the ‘provision’ of the new service, which was a thousand times more difficult than the council’s decision, Wanganui has to thank Mr Seivewright; and, as I said on a previous occasion, I believe that h’s success, in starting from scratch and providing; a transport service for the city of W’anganui, is, in the post-war era, the outstanding achievement in municipal affairs in the whole of New Zealand. “Mr Sievewright has repeatedly demonstrated his energy, initiative, and capacity to get things done. His standing for the mayoraltv gives Wanganui a great onportunity, an opportunity to obtain what It is entitled to and what it needs—strong and able leadership in the mayoral office.”
