W.D.F.F. To Hold Clothes Drive In
Waverley For C.0.R.5.0.
Following successful clothes drives in Wellington and Auckland recently, a collection for Corso is to be held in Waverley on Friday under the auspices‘of the W.D.F.F. The Town Hall is being used as a depot to which Waverley residents are asked to take their bundles of used clothing and footwear. Anyone unable to deliver a parcel is asked to telephone number 103. There is still a big refugee population in Europe. Clothing is one of the urgent needs as another European winter approaches. Corso has also received appeals for help from India and Pakistan, countries for which light garments are suitable.
All Corso supplies are distributed in the name of the people of New Zealand. In each case multi-leaflet folders are enclosed. These read: “This gift comes to you with love and fraternal greetings from the people of New Zealand through the Council of Organisations for Relief Service Overseas.” As well as relieving distress, Corso works to create international friendship. In conjunction with the clothes collection on Friday, members of the Waverley W.D.F.F. are holding a street collection for cash. Money is needed to pay packing costs and freight charges on the supplies sent overseas. More than £lOO,OOO worth of relief goods have been shipped since April of this year.
At the Town Hall there are to be stalls at which produce, cakes, and sweets are to be sold. Afternoon tea will be available at 3 o’clock. It is hoped that with good used clothing and cash donations the people of Waverley will make a worthwhile contribution to Corso’s necessary work.
