Sandy Saddler Is New Featherweight Boxing Champion
NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (Recd. 7pm)— Sandy Saddler won the world’s featherweight boxing championship last night when he defeated the titleholder, Willie Pep, by a technical knock-out in the eighth round at the Yankee Stadium. Both weighed 8.123. The bell had rung for the beginning of the eighth round when a doctor ordered that, the fight cease because Pep had dislocated his left shoulder. Pep was well ahead on points when the seventh round ended, although Saddler had dropped him for the count of nine in the third round. The crowd of 38,781 was the largest ever to see a fight between featherweights.
