PROVISION OF ECONOMIC AID TO SOUTH-EAST ASIA
LONDON, Sept. 8 (Recd. 10pm).— The Socialist journal “Tribune” said today that events in Korea had made the programme for economic aid to South East Asia even more important than It was before. The journal was commenting on talks, which began in: London this week among Commonwealth financial officials and technical experts for formulating a six-year economic aid plan for countries in South and South East Asia.
Stating that it was interesting to note that almost the only practical initiative for helping South East Asia had come from the Commonwealth, the “Tribune” observed that the main brunt of economic aid to South East Asia had fallen on Britain. “This fact certainly gives to the British Government an added rigtjt to take a lead in proposing more extensive plans for the future,” the paper added.
