CANADIAN COMMONS REJECTS IDEA OF SECRET DEFENCE SESSION
OTTAWA, Sept. 8 (Rec. 10 pm).— The Canadian House of Commons today rejected a move by the Opposition Progressive Conservative Party for a secret session to discuss defence matters. Members defeated the motion by 156 to 64.
The secret session was suggested by Mr. George Drew, Progressive Conservative Leader, who, before seeking a vote, warned of the Communist menace in Canada. He demanded the tightening of the law to "deal not with the dupes but with these traitors.” Mr. Drew charged the Defence Minister (Mr. Brooke Claxton) with evasion in supplying details of defence and said a secret session was necessary to give members a cicar picture.
