AMERICA NOW FACING YEARS OF AUSTERITY
LONDON, Sept. 8 (Rec. 6 p.m.)—American people, like the people of Europe, now had years of austerity before them, said the United States Secretary of the Treasury, John Snyder, addressing the AngloAnieriean Press Club in Paris. -Mr. Snyder said the United States had already increased its defence forces from 1,500,000 to 3.000,000 and further inincreases might be required. American expenditure upon defence this year would be between £10,000,000,000 and £12,500,000,000. “I think we Americans will have to dig down and meet more taxes.” said Mr. Snyder. “ We have to meet our problems with courageous sacrifice.” (Special N.Z.
