Wanganui County Supports Compulsion In Noxious Weeds Act
The Wanganui County Council was one of the ten counties who, out of 12 represented at the Ward 4 counties conference in Palmerston North on Tuesday, had voted in favour of the administration of the Noxious Weeds Act by counties being compulsory. Mr S. L. Orr, county clerk, reported to yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui County Council. With another county, the Wanganui county had, however, included the provision that the Government grant a subsidy to assist in the adm nistration costs. Cr. T. Thwaites suggested that the council should ob'ain the Rangitikei County Council’s permission to supply to its ratepayers copies of a report which Ihe Rangitikei council had prepared after exhaustive experiments in weed control. The council was also told that the Ward 4 conference had passed a resolution recommend.ng that the new rating valuations not come into effect until April 1 of lhe year following lhe finalisation of the valuation negotiations.
