COMMUNISTS ARE OPERATING ON AFRICAN CONTINENT

AUCKLAND, Yesterday.—The Communists were making a stealthy and steady bid for power on the African Continent and he suspected they were using a Russian tropical diseases hospital at Addis Ababa as a base.

This statement was made by Mr. G. S. Sandwitch, a chartered surveyor, who spent several years in Abyssinia. He left here by air for Australia after a motor tour through the Dominion Mr. Sandwitch stated that the Red menace had grown to such an extent that special British police investigators had recently spent many months in Africa.

“Russians in Addis Ababa are seemingly} using the imperial rule there to the best advantage just as Emperor Haile Selassie is playing white against white in his efforts to restore Abyssinia,” said Mr. Sandwitch. The Russians offered the Emperor a hospital soon after the war. The Emperor gladly accepted the gift. Soon the building was up and an entire Russian staff was established, gaining information which would be valuable in the event of a tropical war. Ethiopia was free from European police regulations. Mr. Sandwitch added that a Communist plot was recently discovered in Kenya, and it was discovered that agents fomenting the trouble had come fram Addis Ababa.
