ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR HEALTH STAMP CAMPAIGN IN CITY

Arrangements for a canvass of the business area by various women’s organisations as a preliminary to the annual appeal for sales of health stamps, was made at a meeting yesterday afternoon of the Wanganui Health Stamp Campaign Committee. The first stamps will be on sale on October 2 and an effort will be made to dispose of as many as possible on the first day, so that the campaign will be completed speedily and with the best results obtainable. Mr A. R. Donaldson, a member ot the original Health Camp Trust Board, presided at the initial stages and later Mrs J. C. Wickham was elected to the chair. “I am very pleased to see to many ladies present,” said Mr Donaldson. “Last year we had a meeting at about this time and as a result of the committee s activities on that occasion a new record was established.” The old board had gone out of existence and had been replaced by the District Health Camp Association, which was affiliated with the Wellington Health Camp Association, Mr Donaldson added. He expressed the hope that this year’s campaign for the gale of health stamps would again be successful.

The meeting was well attended by members of women’s organisations which will take part in the campaign. Also present were the chief postmaster, Mr W. O’Connell, the deputy chief postmaster, Mr H. A. N. Catanach, and the secretary-organiser, Mr A. Bell. It was decided to form a committee consisting of all present at the meeting, with power to add. For the purpose of the appeal the city has been divided into zones. Circulars are being sent out to business premises and these will be followed by personal visits from women who will take orders for stamps for delivery on the opening day. First day covers will also be made available as requested. Starting from October 2 a booth for the sale of health stamps will be located at the Chief Post Office. It will be manned by women’s organisations which are assisting in the campaign, the hours for the first week being 8.30 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Thereafter the booth booth will be open from 10 a.m. till noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. When the booth is not open health stamps may be purchased at the counter. Funds from the sale of health stamps go toward sending children to health camps, and the value of this work has been well recognised in Wanganui during past years. Mr Catanach announced that, a brief opening ceremony would again be held at the Chief Pest Office on the morning of the opening day to mark the start of the campaign. The Mayor of Wanganui, Hon. W'. J. Rogers, M.L.C., would preside. Mrs Wickham appealed for the fullest support possible, “i would like 1o see us on top of the world with this campaign, and I am sure that, y?u will help me to get there,’* she said.
