Conveyor Gutted At Sugar Works
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).—A conveyor at the Chelsea sugar refinery was badly charred tonight by a fire which blazed for a short 'time and was seen from distant parts of the city. The fire was reported shortly after 9 o’clock and was got under control by the North Shore Fire Brigade half an hour later.
No reliable estima'te of (he damage could be given tonight, but it was stated that sugar deliveries would not be affected. No sugar was destroyed by the fire and the works themselves escaped damage. About half the length of the conveyor, which runs from the factory to the lighter wharf, was damaged. A shed on the wharf also suffered severely.
