SWIMMING OFFICIAL SUSPENDED FROM N.Z. ASSOCIATION

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night (PA).—Mr. W. O. Stockfey, chairman of the Auckland Swimming Centre, has been suspeded from membership of the New Zealand Swimming Association until he attends a meeting of the council cil of the association and council recognition of the Auckland Centre has been withdrawn until the centre rescinds a resolution it adopted not io attend a n inquiry which the council held this evening. This was announced this evening by the president, Mr. Baxter O'Neill, after an inquiry had been held in committee. The council heard evidence from Mr. J. C. Kirkland, controller of the swimming events at the British Empire Games, and Mr. N. N. Oldershaw, joint organising secretary of the Games, who, in a report to the council after the Games, complained of Mr. Stockley’s conduct at th e Games. Mr. O'Neill announced that the resolution of the council on non-recog-nition of Auckland would not apply to nominal officers, namely the patrons, or to the honorary secretaries of the centre. The Auckland Centre's delegate on the council, Mr. B. J. Betts, would remain on the council in fte meantime, with a watching brief.

Only one delegate. Mr. B. F. Betts (Auckland) favoured the inquiry being held in open meeting. After the president had reviewed the events which led up to the inquiry, the meeting went into committee.
