Man With Long List Released From Gaol Before Sentence Ended

DUNEDIN, Yesterday.—With over 60 convictions, nearly all for dishonesty, between 1919 and 1949, Rubert Bruce McKinlay, aged 51, a labourer, admitted the theft of a bicycle in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. "It is amazing to me that the Prisons Board should have let him out after eight months with his list," said Mr. J. D. Willis, S.M., in sending McKinlay to gaol lor three months’ hard labour.

The magistrate was referring to McKinlay’s recent relqase after being sentenced to one y (ar's reformative detention. Apparntly the authorities thought he had reformed, said Mr. Willis.
