Mr D. M. Douglas has been elected president of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club.

Mr. J. H- W. Barber, who for the past five years lias been district rehabilitation officer at Hamilton, has been transferred on promotion to Wellington as Director of Maori Housing Maori Affairs Department.

Mr Leslie Miles has retired from the position of manager or the Gisborne branch of Murray, Roberts and Co. Ltd. because of ill-health. He has held the position lor 29 years. Ml Milese’ successor is Mr L. Balfour.

Mr S. T. Barnett, seretary of 'the Justice Department and Controller of Prisons, who has been visiting Britain and tfie Continent, has left for the U.S.A., where he will spend several weeks. He has been -conferring with prison officials and court officers. Major-General Inglis, soon to return to New Zealand after a term as chief judge in the British zone in Germany, has received the Greek Military Cross (first class) awarded to him in 1942 for his part in Hie operations in Crete He received the cross from the Greek Ambassador in London, M. Leon Mqlas. Mr. W. Macartney (Christchurch), thq sitting member, has been supported for re-appointment to the Dairy Products Marketing Commission by the Dairy Board conference. The ap pointment is made' by the Minister of Agriculture from nominations made by the industry.

Brigadier R. S. Park, commanding officer of K-Force, paid a visit to the Linton Military Camp yesterday accompanied by Lieutenant-Colonel J. Moodie, operational commander of the force. Brigadier Park is making a flying tour of the three training centres, Linton, Papakura, and Burnham.— (P.A.)

Lieutenant-Colonel H. D. Robertson, of Wanganui, was awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces’ Long Service Decoration at an investiture held by the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., at Wellington. The decoration is the Victoria! equivalent of the Efficiency Decoration of today.
