Durie Hill School Fancy Dress Ball

The Durie Hill School fancy dress ball and display was held last month in the Baden-Powell Hall, which was filled to capacity with parents and friends of the school.

A programme of folk dancing, singing games and choral singing and speaking was given by the pupils, and four short plays were acted: “The Little Man,” Standards 1 and 2 "Cinderella” (a mime), Standard 3; “The Jester,’’ Standard 4; and “The Trial of Toad,” Forms 1 and 2.

Opportunity was taken during the evening of making a farewell presentation to Mrs Jagger, a member of the School and Hall committees, who has moved to Gonville. A presentation was also made to Miss Yates, a member of the staff, and good wishes were extended to her from the school on her approaching marriage.

The Headmaster, Mr Flower, thanked the parents for the work they had done in providing such a splendid variety of fancy costumes for the children.

Ice-creams for the children were dispensed by the school committee, and a bag of home-made sweets for every child was made and given by Mrs Minnell.
