Scientific Parties To Spend Winter In Alps
LONDON. Aug. 31 (Recd. 6 ptn).— A party of four British scientists, headed by Professor P. M. S. Blackett, are to spend the winter in an observatory near the summit of 13.600 ft. Jubgfrau, in the Swiss Alps, where they will carry out high altitude photography of nuclear particles produced by cosmic rays. Their equipment will include a Id-ton magnet, which will have to be brought through n four-mile tunnel and raised up a "50ft. lift shaft to reach the observatory.
Another party, from Bristol University, will spend the winter on Hie summit of an adjoining peak, the Jungfrau josh, where they will pho'/' eranh radio active particles by a different method.
