British And U.S. Rates Of Pay In Korea Compared

LONDON, Aug. 31 (Recd. 6 p.m.) Owing to restrictions imposed upon the drawings of British officers and men in Korea, which is a hard currency area, a British major will draw less money than an American private, says the “News Chronicle’s” correspondent. A British major will be allowed 16 draw up to 75 dollars a month in the form of dollar scrip which is expendable only in canteens. An American private gets a basic pay of 85 dollars, 50 cents a month. British privates will be allowed to draw only five dollars 60 cents a week. “It is not as bad as it sounds — there is nothing much to buy in Korea anyway,” the correspondent comments.— Special Correspondent.
