WANGANUI GIRL WINS ANTHONY EDEN ORATORY CUP
AUCKLAND, Last Night (P.A.).— British heritage was the rather imposing subjeJ upon which 11 Now Zealand finalists competing in the Anthony Edon oratory contest held in the Auckland University College Hall tonight, were required to speak. The contest, competed for annually by high school p!»u:ls throughout the Dominion, is or;;.mised by the Overseas League for a cup presented by Mr. Anthony Eden when he visited this country. Tho winner was Margaret Eel!, of the Wanganui Guls’ College, 151 years of age, the “baby ’ of the contest. Second place was secured by 17-ycar-old Margaret Fletcher, of St. Dominic's College, Dunedin, and third place by one of the five bovs taking part, John McLean, of Nelson College, also 17 years of age.
