Women’s Division Waitotara

Attendance at the monthly meeting of the Waitotara branch of the WDFF on August 24 was only fair, largely as a result of the school holidays. The president, Mrs. Gower James, reported on the annual meeting of the Residential Nursery; Mrs. R. Forsyth was unanimously elected to its committee as branch representative. Gifts sent to the nursery had been acknowledged, also a parcel of teatowels forwarded to “Kianga Moe” rest home. It was resolved to send a donation to the Children's Appeal of UNICEF. The day’s competitions resulted as follows: Pikelets, Mrs. T. Wilson 1, Mrs. Gower James 2, Mrs. K. Handley 3. Bloom (anemone), Mrs. A. Laird; trumpet bulbs, Mrs. T. Wilson; decorative, Mrs. K. Handley 1, Miss M. Verry 2, Mrs. 'W. Crawshaw 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames A. Hooper and S Warner. An original competition arranged by Mrs. Crawshaw caused much amusement Mrs. Dahlberg and Mrs. N. Verry tied for winn’ng place. Competition for next month are: Cooking: Iced chocolate cake. Bloom: Polyanthus or ranunculus. BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY. At the junior group meeting of the British Music Society items w ere contributed by Louvainne Jenkins and Mary Rush, Helen Steele and Margaret Nicol (piano duels), Barbara j i’ennyfather, Margaret Stewart, ! Jacqueline Stone, Joseph Kumeroa Peter Wawick (piano solos), Noelwyn i Cann, Joyce Trillo (violin solos). The accompanist was Madame A.
